The French press method of coffee brewing was created by Italian designer Attilio Calimani in 1929.

Thank you for this post. I got a french press coffee maker as a wedding gift (yes nearly 5 years ago) and we have hardly used it.
I have enjoyed using it but it seems from your post I have not been using it properly. I have never bothered to let it brew. I just wasn’t aware of this.
What coffee would you recommend for the french press coffee maker?

      Hello, Lynne,

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your impressions. /// What do you mean? besides Brazilian coffee?!?!? hahaha. Just joking.

It all depends, a bit, on the type of drinker you are and how much you are willing to spend. If you are going for commercial ground coffees, I hugely suggest Brazilian brands.

But, if you want more refined stuff, I suggest you go to your local coffee dealer and ask him what is the best (Brazilian :P) coffee he can grind for you. Even better is to grind them yourself. I could suggest Brazilian Santos (there are also lighter options), if I had to pick a name.

Don’t let me push our coffee on you too much. There are several countries (Colombia, Ethiopia, Java, etc) that produce good coffee. Try them out and make up your own mind.

Just keep in mind that Arabica coffee is much better than Robusta, 2 generic types (that are usually blended in different ratios).

      Cheers!

It sounds incredible to admit, but after enjoying coffee for some 30 years, I have never tried this French Press Coffee maker. I realize it is close to one century old invention, and I have seen it everywhere, but I have never used it and never tried coffee from it. So clearly it is time to do something about it, I just watched the whole video you gave here.

I see that prices of all models are really close to each other, and very reasonable as I understand. Thanks a lot, you have me something to think about.
